Now Playing: 6 New Rules of Wearing Sweatpants
In the canon of great modern British designers, the late Alexander (Lee) McQueen still stands out as one of the most noteworthy of the past quarter-century. While his spirit and aesthetic ideals live on at the label under the talented mentorship of Sarah Burton, it’s fascinating to any man interested in the current style scene to look back on where it all began.
That’s why we’re excited about the V&A bringing his Savage Beauty retrospective over to the UK from its run at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art (where it charted as one of the top ten most successful exhibitions the gallery has ever staged).
Starting out with his 1992 MA graduate collection and running through to his unfinished A/W 2010 collection, the designer’s most noteworthy designs for both women and men will be staged in a way that they throwback to the famously artistic shows that became his trademark.
Details of the exact content of the show are sketchy right now, but needless to say its popularity will translate – and perhaps even intensify – now that it’s being staged over the side of the Atlantic. Considering the exhibition isn’t set to open until early next year and tickets are on sale today, it appears the V&A is bracing itself for a sell-out, so we’d suggest you get on their site as soon as you can to avoid disappointment.
Tickets on sale now. Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty opens March 2015 at the V&A, Cromwell Road, Kensington, London, SW7.
