Thanos Rising #5: Axel Thanks Readers - Marvel AR

Thanks, Readers!

On Wednesday I wrote about how current gasoline priceswere burning up my budget. Paying .17 again this morning really made me steam, but what choice do I have? Turns out I do have some options, and readers with great advice!

Reader Sheila tells me that if it weren't for carpools and public transportation she too would have to cut into her family's food budget. I love the idea of public transportation, but unfortunately, the bus that travels from where I live to Boston goes about twenty miles past where I work. I would then have to turn around and take another bus backwards and walk about forty minutes to my office. Not only would I be late, but New England winters can make walking dangerous.

Fellow blogger Kimasked me if I could switch to a four-day, ten-hour-per day workweek. I'm one step ahead of you, Kim! I already do! Imagine how much more I would have to pay if I didn't already have Fridays off? That ten-hour workday also prohibits me from ride-sharing. I have to be at work much earlier and leave much later than the average worker. I haven't given up yet though. I am still looking for that special commuter who has the same hours that I do.

Another great suggestion that Kim had was looking for free Smartphone apps that can tell you the cheapest place to fill up in your area. I don't have a Smartphone, but I found gasbuddy.com and I love it! Simply type in your zip code and it lists all of the stations in your area and their prices per gallon. After using it, I found a gas station not too far from my home (it's new and I didn't even know it existed) that will save me ten cents per gallon! Thanks, Kim!

To find more tips to save on gas click here. A few of my favorites are:

Put Your Car on a Diet:The more your car weighs, the more fuel you will burn, so clean out the interior at least once a week.

Slow Down:Fuel efficiency decreases at speeds exceeding 60 mph. Obey all posted speed limits, and keep your fuel gauge out of the red zone.

Cruise around town:Making good use of cruise control can increase fuel efficiency as much as 14 percent.

I thought that these were great suggestions, but I would love to hear more.
